The Dojo Instructor, Jim Griffin, has been training in Shorinjiryu since 1982, having previously trained with an ex SAS soldier in a non - formalized school. His wife, Lesley, commenced training soon after and both have trained in Shorinjiryu non - stop since. Both were successful in competition and represented Australia at Koshiki World championships, Jim in 1985 and Lesley in 1985 and 1994.  Shihan Jim Griffin

Their Instructor until his retirement was Shihan Phil Hooper, Patron of Shorinjiryu Karatedo Australia. The Chief Instructor and founder of Australian Shorinjiryu, Shihan Lori Van Niekerk, also contributed to their training until his retirement. Jim is current joint Chief Instructor of Shorinjiryu Karatedo Australia, Nationally. Sei Ryu Kan students regularly compete successfully in Koshiki tournaments and are also able to compete under WUKO rules if they wish. The Dojo has produced many State and National Champions, five having represents Australia at World Championships. Shorinjiryu Karatedo Australia is a member of The Shorinjiryu Shinzen Kyokai, a Worldwide Organization of Shorinjiryu. We are also members the Australian Koshiki Association, an all styles competition system based on the use of bogu to protect the competitors. |
